EDUCATION OVERVIEW

Education has been at the core of the Center's mission since its inception in 1972. From planning and coordinating international Bishops' Workshops on bioethics issues for bishops of the United States, Canada, Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean and the Philippines, to serving as a field education site for graduate students in bioethics and through our internship and guided independent study programs, the NCBC has always sought to assist in the formation of competent individuals well steeped in the Catholic moral tradition and its application to specific clinical cases.

One-day Workshops are also offered on topics such as the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services and specific beginning-of-life and end-of-life issues. Several times a year the NCBC offers a series of Annual Seminars for health care professionals, clergy, and others interested in bioethics. In 2005 the Center began to offer a National Catholic Certification Program in Health Care Ethics for health care professionals, members of ethics committees, and others interested in pursuing advanced understanding of the application of the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops.

The National Catholic Bioethics Center considers authentic Catholic education to be at the very heart of its mission. Speakers from the Center are available on a variety of today's major medical and ethical issues to parishes, professional and pro-life groups, educational institutions, and major media outlets.
