May 29, 2024 - June 7, 2024

This novena has been developed by the NCBC’s Personal Consultations Department using several common prayers, selected Scripture verses, aspirations to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and unique intentions tied to the NCBC’s personal consultation service.

Day 1

+ Heart of Jesus, formed by the Holy Spirit in the womb of the Virgin Mother, have mercy on us +

Scripture Passage

But the plan of the LORD stands forever, the designs of his heart through all generations.

Psalm 33:11

Opening Prayer

Eucharistic Heart of Jesus, infinite in majesty and worthy of all praise, we adore and honor You. Let us reclaim the month of June with the flames of your love!

Merciful Heart of Jesus, broken for our sins and salvation of all who trust in You, accept this novena in reparation for the countless violations of the dignity of the human person in health care and biomedical research.

Gracious Heart of Jesus, full of goodness and love, receive our thanks for granting success to the work of the NCBC’s Personal Consultations Department over this past year.

Sweet Heart of Jesus, generous to all who turn to You, grant us the graces we now implore.

Invocation

O Sacred Heart of Jesus, whatever may be Your decision with regard to my request, I will never cease to adore, praise and serve You. Deign, my Jesus, to accept this my act of perfect submission to the decrees of Your adorable Heart.

Novena Prayers

I.  O my Jesus, You have said, "Truly I say to you, ask and you shall receive, seek and you shall find, knock and it shall be opened to you." Behold I knock, I seek, and I ask for the grace of the gifts of prudence, peace, and consolation of the hearts of all patients, families, friends, health care professionals, clergy, and others who are aided by the NCBC's personal ethics consultations.

Pater, Ave, Gloria.

Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in you.

II.  O my Jesus, You have said, "Truly I say to you, if you ask anything of the Father in My Name, He will give it to you." Behold, in Your name, I ask the Father for the grace of 10% growth in NCBC’s ethics consultation numbers.

Pater, Ave, Gloria.

Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in you.

III.  O my Jesus, You have said, "Truly I say to you, heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will not pass away." Encouraged by Your infallible words, I now ask for the grace of donations of at least $125,000 to help support NCBC's free consultation service.

Pater, Ave, Gloria

Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in you.

O Sacred Heart of Jesus, for Whom it is impossible not to have compassion on the afflicted, have mercy on us sinners, and grant us the grace which we ask of You, through the Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary, Your tender mother and ours.

Hail, Holy Queen, Mother of Mercy, our life, our sweetness and our hope. To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve. To thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears. Turn then, most gracious advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us, and after this our exile show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.

Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

St. Joseph, Foster Father of Jesus, pray for us.

Concluding Prayer

O Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, fountain of life and holiness, grant that the names of all who provide, support, or benefit from personal consultations through The National Catholic Bioethics Center may be engraved upon Thy Heart forever. May their hearts be aflame with the fire of Thy charity, may their heads rest gently on the beating font of Thy wisdom, and may their actions make Thy Father well pleased.

Jesus, meek and humble of heart, make our hearts like unto Thine!

Renewal of Consecration

+ Heart of Jesus, king and center of all hearts, have mercy on us +

Scripture Passage

But thanks be to God, that you who were once slaves of sin have become obedient from the heart to the standard of teaching to which you were committed, and, having been set free from sin, have become slaves of righteousness.

Romans 6:17-18

Reflection

And since there is in the Sacred Heart a symbol and a sensible image of the infinite love of Jesus Christ which moves us to love one another, therefore is it fit and proper that we should consecrate ourselves to His most Sacred Heart—an act which is nothing else than an offering and a binding of oneself to Jesus Christ, seeing that whatever honor, veneration and love is given to this divine Heart is really and truly given to Christ Himself.

Pope Leo XIII, Annum Sacrum (1899)

Opening Prayer

O Heart all loveable and all loving of my Savior, be the Heart of my heart, the Soul of my soul, the Spirit of my spirit, the Life of my life and the sole principle of all my thoughts, words and actions, of all the faculties of my soul and of all my senses, both interior and exterior. Amen.

St. John Eudes

Renewal of Consecration

Merciful Jesus, united in prayer, we renew the consecration of the Personal Consultations Department of The National Catholic Bioethics Center to Thy Most Sacred Heart this day and always. We entrust to Thy Sacred Heart, in its fullness of goodness and love, all those who contact NCBC for guidance in accomplishing Thy divine will in their lives. Thy most patient and passionate Heart burns with unquenchable love for them. The dearth of sound teaching in our times, the complexities of ever-advancing technologies, and the cold depersonalization rampant in health care and biomedical research cause confusion and distress for those who seek to know and live the Truth. Thy Heart alone can offer perfect answers to each of Thy children, for it contains all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. Thy Heart alone can impel right action, for it is the abyss of all virtues. Thy Heart alone can bring peace to troubled souls, for it is the source of all consolation.

Amen.

Jesus, meek and humble of heart, make our hearts like unto Thine!
